CoMingle is an experimental music collective exploring an eclectic sound, with varying arrangements drawing from idioms like: pop, hip hop, prog rock, and neo-soul. Luna Pluer (vocalist) and Mark Goodden (keyboards) began CoMingle while composing and performing songs together in high school, and have since seen the project evolve with Zach Ramirez (saxophones/rap), Will Bailey (drums, engineer), Jordan Kowalski (percussion), Nathan Relles (guitar), Dave Wyatt (bass), and many others. They see their sound as a living, independent force and seek to understand their space and to be open to how the music can sound best in each unique performance.
Accompanying Mark for his senior recital as "Goodd n' Friends" are Noah Joque (trumpet) and Grant Blaschka (string bass), as well as members of CoMingle/Maestranza. Learning so much from Professors Johannes Wallmann, Les Thimmig, and Peter Dominguez at UW Madison, he looks forward to sharing the sounds he’s been developing over the past few years while under their mentorship. This recital will include a couple original tunes, a couple unoriginal arrangements, and a couple unoriginal tunes with original arrangements. They'll showcase music composed by the great Charles Mingus, Jimmy Rowles, and Frank Churchill.
Featuring a lineup with members from CoMingle, Railhopper, and the Lakewaves Trio, Maestranza is an unconventional quintet that experiments with infusing rock, metal, and funk into a traditional jazz combo format. Bandleader Nathan “Kid Twist” Relles (guitar) brought together Zach Ramirez (saxophones/rap), Mark Goodden (keyboards), Aaron Metz (bass), and Will Bailey (drums) to bring Maestranza’s sound to the stage.
