Not everyone knew the depth of the water, but even for the meekest among them, curiosity overcame fear. Stripped naked, four of them braved the icy surface of the black sheet hiding only God knows what horrors. From a distance, those-who-could-not-be-trusted watched them submerge their lanky figures, stifling their squeals and gasps despite the pleasure. They understood the significance. They were no custodian of truth, but they knew: the Qualm had infected the Lake. No matter how sweetly they sang, how fervently they danced, the people would never again hope for a woodland paradise. Centuries later mettlesome travelers would approach the shoreline and hear faint tinkling melodies, but their sudden fatigue kept them from delving any further. Cartographers attempted to chart the location to no avail: Lake Qualm was not what it seemed. A quill spun out of the writer’s hand. A compass cracked in two. A foul humor broke hallowed vows. Spruce sap stained the cloth of community. What was it, that invertebrate writhing that sprung in the meadows? Lake Qualm, for the love of God, we do not approach your boggy loam, please deliver us from earthly drowning!

2 Hat Champ is a funk band from Madison who started playing together 3 years ago and have continued to play shows around the area since then. Nick, Adam, and Scott make up the smooth rhythm section on Guitar, Bass and Drums. Matt and Robert bring some energy with their Trombone and Trumpet, and Janelle ties it all together with her vocals and Keyboard playing.
