…or Does it Explode? (oDiE) was born from the wish to rebuild and re-imagine what was once known as Our Friends the Savages. With new guitarist, Brandon Boggess, and bassist, J Granberg, joining Shawn Bass and Erik Rasmuson a new project and vision was born. Melding elements of Midwest emo, post-hardcore, and post-rock, oDiE explores the highs and lows of the human experience. While not overtly political, they do not shy from addressing issues of equity, privilege, and power dynamics.

Never complacent, they are constantly bending the boundaries of genre constraint. This does not make oDiE easy to explain or peg. The diversity keeps the listener engaged and never stymied. One song may find a poly-rhythmic drum beat, a twinkling lead, an atypical chord structure, and a prodding bass line all directing the listener to think, listen, and react. oDiE also mixes in sound samples and a visual projection to heighten the experience.

Always trying to expand their sound, oDiE added a singer--Katya--to the band in late 2022.
