Madison’s most accomplished fringe theatre company, Pile of Cats, presents an all new evening of original contemporary shorts. Covering right-now themes of fluid identities and social media codes along with classic battles of the sexes and the foibles of those too smart for the room, Laughing Jackdaws will present a two-act evening of fresh and funny takes on the life you - or someone you know - lives every day. Musical duo Britton and Sarah will open the evening with a wide range of soft pop in the relaxed setting of The Bur Oak on Madison’s east side.
Laughing Jackdaws will feature the following talented local actors: QJ Dougall, Richard League, Sage Snook, April Brown, Katie Rice, Spenser Wise, Ben Doran, Mary Fairweather Dexter, Sam O’Reilly, Erin Nonn, Michelle Butcher, Linda Gaumnitz, and Jacob Lange.
Pile of Cats Theatre Company emerged in 2020 out of the tangled trappings of Left of Left Center. With more than two dozen productions between them, both companies have long featured the original writing of founder Ned O’Reilly performed by casts of some of Madison’s finest local actors. Using an exceptionally collaborative actor-director model, the Cats have played in dozens of pubs, bars, clubs, and community centers (and even a theatre) in Madtown proper as well as many of the surrounding cities, from Sun Prairie to Oregon and Middleton to Monona. Always witty, always surprising, and always focusing on adult subjects, shorts in Pile of Cats shows make you laugh, think, and talk about them a lot afterward.
