This new formation organized by journeyman saxophonist Dave Rempis (Ballister, Kuzu, Rempis Percussion Quartet) represents a cross-section of the thriving jazz and improvised music scene based out of Chicago, whose tentacles reach out regionally to Milwaukee (Johnson) and Madison (Heinemann) as well.  Rempis, trumpeter Russ Johnson, and drummer Jeremy Cunningham are all established leaders on their own, bridging the spectrum between knowing how to truly swing, and knowing how to take it just as far out.  Bassist Jakob Heinemann is a young player originally from Madison who took the Chicago scene by storm since moving there several years ago. He’s now back in Madison leading the charge amongst a new generation of improvising musicians.  The band started their journey with a Blustem Jazz concert in Madison in August 2021, and they’ve continued with several Chicago dates since that time, refining their sound and chemistry into a thoughtful, deliberate, and unique quartet sound.
