Led by free-wheeling frontman Miles Nielsen, The Rusted Hearts have been wowing audiences for years with the diversity of their sound, the tightness of their 4-part harmonies, and the quality of their songcraft. Equally comfortable in a compact 3-minute pop song and an epic 10-minute jam, the band has toured incessantly since their inception in 2011, amassing an army of hardcore followers that have dubbed themselves the Rusted Herd. Their new album “OHBAHOY” finds the band venturing into a sphere of Americana that feels both familiar and excitingly new. Tight drums, rich guitar tones, gorgeous woodwinds, and sweeping harmonies provide the perfect complements to Nielsen’s immense storytelling gifts and impeccable vocals. The album’s name comes from an imaginary friend Nielsen had growing up, a fitting reminder as we get older to hold tightly to the noble ideals of freedom and creativity that seem so natural to us as children.
Well-loved for passionately supporting other artists as a drummer and producer in the indie and folk scene for over 20 years, Darren Garvey sings with the rhythmic clarity of a percussionist and drums with the precision of a poet. For Darren, songs come from somewhere – an instrument, the confluence of two rivers, a scribble in his daughter’s notebook – the title track on his latest As A Scribble (2025) evokes the wonder of child’s play and the messiness of life. Garvey has long been called an honorary member of Miles Nielsen & The Rusted Hearts. Playing drums and percussion on many of their studio releases, he released a split EP with the late legendary MNRH guitarist Dan McMahon called Social Distance (2020) as well as featuring Dan on As A Scribble. Multi-instrumentalist Darren Garvey remains a longtime member of Elephant Revival and currently calls Milwaukee home. He is performing solo around the Midwest in support of his new full-length album.
