Dearth (with Andy Ewen and James The Magician)

Dearth

Doors 7:00PM / Show 8:00PM

$7

This is a seated show. The band Dearth began in 2017 when drummer Braden Huffman met bassist Ivan Skryagin. The two got together for a jam and there was an immediate rapport. Joined by a guitarist extraordinaire Lucas Bielejewski (who was replaced by James Strelow a year later) they began creating their own brand of eclectic, uniquely composed instrumental rock music with an emphasis on complex forms and good grooves. Saxophonist Brennan Connors is a recent addition who brings even more color and vitality to the mix.

Braden Huffman moved to Wisconsin from Ohio. He has played with Neens, Disq, Lover's Spit, Cowboy Winter and Gloss Coats. He loves the Beach Boys, The Beatles, Zappa, Slayer, Fugazi, Stephen King and Star Wars.

Ivan Skryagin is from Novocheboksarsk, Russia and didn't play in front of people until forming Dearth, but he's also performed with Tani Diakite and the Afrofunkstars. His primary influences are Russian classical music, metal, jazz, Danny Elfman, and Soviet cartoon scores.

James Strelow hails from Waterford, Wisconsin. He has played in Dash Hounds, Melkweed, Pocket Park and Bronson Wisconsin. He loves classic rock, country and all things metal.

Brennan Connors is a Madison native. He's performed in many bands and played musical styles from all over the Western Hemisphere. He was a member of James Earl Tate's blues band and the popular hip-hop/rock group Know Boundaries until moving to Chicago in 2004. He worked with numerous jazz, blues, and Brazilian artists while living there. Now back in Madison, Brennan performs regularly with the Brazilian band Samba Novistas and leads the free jazz trio Brennan Connors & Stray Passage.
